Description

Description

Technical & Manufacturing Relevance:
Zinc oxide is an important zinc source used for topical, oral, and cosmetic applications, valued for its astringent, protective, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and UV-reflective properties. In nutraceutical and pharmaceutical formulations, it serves as a stable source of elemental zinc, particularly suitable for solid dosage forms due to its excellent thermal and chemical stability.
From a manufacturing standpoint, zinc oxide is practically insoluble in water, non-hygroscopic, and exhibits good flow characteristics, making it suitable for dry blending and compression. Due to lower solubility compared to zinc salts, it may show reduced bioavailability in oral products, which is considered during formulation design. In topical and cosmetic products, zinc oxide provides skin-protective and physical UV-blocking functionality.
